The good side of Social Media

Some of the unmatched perks of social media are:

  • The world as your oyster: Social media can eliminate communication barriers, making any community come together at any time.
  • News at your fingertips: Several interactable users stay up-to-date and educate themselves firsthand.
  • A chance for businesses: Businesses can market their services efficiently due to the availability of analytics that allow them to automate their business.
  • Voice for the voiceless: Aspects that would have otherwise gone unnoticed were brought to reality through SM—for instance, the #MeToo movement.

Obstacles and Limitations

On the other hand, social media can be intrusive and has the following limitations:

  • Fake news: Abusing freedom of speech causes an imbalance, greatly damaging Society and its people.
  • Mental Health Effects: Anxiety, depression, and low self-worth are some of the negative impacts of social media overuse and exposure to an externally idealized life.

  • The ethics of Paywalls: Ethical and Legislative issues arise in data gathering and commercialized advertisement.

The Effect that Social Media has on Society

The SM trend touches almost all strata of Society:

  • Linguistic: SM has changed communication, facilitating enhanced cross-national relations.
  • Beauty: SM-generated fads easily manipulate the general populace’s views and attitudes.
  • Political and Social Change: SM channels actively stimulate political activity and change campaigns.
  • Advertising and Sales: Today, business entities use SM platforms to market and increase sales profits.
